Not geographically contiguous to Russia. Eastern Europe is geographically contiguous to Western Europe, and it is therefore sensible and reasonable for them to be allied.

Additionally, there is a long history of Russia and its derivatives launching a war of aggression against Eastern Europe, for which there is nothing similar in our hemisphere.
