Roles become solidified. Rotations are concentrated down. Players are put in the best position to cash in on what they do best.
Poorly coached teams do not improve and lose ground vs well coached competition because they're standing still while others are moving forward.
Late season games also tend to be much more intense which hurts teams that do not rebound well or play good defense.
These are the chief reasons why Mizzou is now losing steam.
