Bill Belechik has done the same for North Carolina football and there is talk that the basketball program should do the same.
I don't know if Missouri has adopted the same model but it appears to be a trend. The GM takes a lot of pressure off the head coach (they manage NIL, etc).
It is no longer the college sports we knew 10 years, 20 years, 30 years ago.
