Rather than single out a few to reap the benefits of no tax. I mean, why not drop tax on engineers and bring more high tech manufacturing to Georgia. And so forth. Offering tax free income to athletes probably won't sit well with people who make modest incomes and pay taxes and could give a sh$t about college athletics (and I suspect this is a fairly large percent of the people in any state that has a state income tax).
