do away with income taxes entirely... like we have done for the majority of US history.

Those were actually great years for the US economically speaking, and they not only had no debt, but a surplus.

Look how much time, effort, money and resources are used in writing the income tax laws, modifying them, litigating over them, and the graft and bribes that are probably involved. That isn't counting the time, effort, money and resources the taxpayers expend on trying to comply with those ever changing laws and codes.

How much good could the billions spent be utilized elsewhere to better effect?
