ATC and said he had the RTJ in sight and asked for visual separation approval, meaning he would steer clear of the plane. ATC gave him that OK. Then he flew straight into it. I think he was looking at the wrong plane. Another one had just taken off and I think that's the one he was seeing. Anyone who has flown into a big city airport at night knows it's not easy to see other airplanes with all the lights in the background.
