double digits. The only way many of our friends could buy a house was a gift from parents for the down payment. Their parents understood the stability home ownership offered to a young family.
We saved our money and eventually had enough for a down payment and interest rates dropped to make a house payment affordable.
The younger generation isn't into saving and is all about instant gratification. They are willing to live without kids because it means they can't afford other stuff. They are willing to rent forever because who wants to be worried about lawn care and home repairs.
