insurance nearly high enough to cover the value of his homes. He purchased a huge water tank and a bunch of foam to protect them, but it was a high stress situation for him every time fires started raging out there.
He tried getting involved in the political aspects of things by going to meetings, trying to convince them to start putting the electric lines underground. Most of the fires were started by downed electric lines. When the winds got high and knocked down trees or limbs they would knock down those electric lines and start massive fires.
He pointed out that it would be far more cost effective for them to do that than to pay the exorbitant insurance rates and to rebuild the numerous homes that burnt every year.
They fought him tooth and nail on that. It was too unfriendly to the environment.
I really don't see how the annual forest fires are more friendly to the butterflies and native fly larvae than burying the electric lines would be.
Could you explain that?
