Winning would have no historical significance and it would take a bunch of logistics and extra games to pull off. Guys aren't going to want to play 3-4 extra games just to be the NIT of football champions.
I wouldn't be surprised to see some degree of bowl games dying in the next 10 years. I don't really see how it's sustainable financially. It's basically another non con game where lots of key players choose not to play.
Want more teams with something to play for? Expand the playoff to 32 teams, eliminate conference title games, and knock a week off the regular season. Then at the most teams are playing 16 games and the majority will only play 11-12.
