serious medical conditions who had not purchased health insurance prior to their health problems & with little or no income, but it had a very deleterious effect upon the health care market in general.
It got the government heavily involved in health care, taking a lot of decisions out of the hands of the physicians and the patients. It greatly reduced the number of insurance companies in the market as well as choices for the consumers and the doctors.
It also cause MASSIVE problems when it was implemented and huge out of pocket increases for health insurance premiums and large increases in deductibles.
It implemented a computer system that was very inefficient and insecure. Many people could not even find out if the companies had received their applications for coverage months after their old policies were canceled by government mandate. They had no idea if they were covered and that caused terrible stress on people who had heart attacks and other serious events but no proof that they had coverage or would be covered.
It was a nightmare for a lot of people for a long time.
Now we have the government spending additional hundreds of billions on individual's medical coverage and making life and death decisions for patients and doctors.
It is another huge intrusion of socialism into our society and overall has a very detrimental effect on our economy and on our society.
