They are getting out there ahead of this by warning you so you don't get sticker shock when they jack up the prices, but is this the most effective strategy?
Instead, they should be doing more incremental increases each year.
That stadium may have been sold out every home game this year, but it wasn't packed every game. There were plenty of empty seats, especially in the upper deck on the east side.
They need to find a balance for every market segment: The corporate donors, the die hard old timers, the families on a budget, and the casual fan that may come to one game, students, etc...
Do a better job of limiting your season ticket quantity. Make more profits off those single game individual tickets to premier games. The secondary market was insane this year. People were willing to fork out major cash for single game tickets. People were willing to pay over $100 for hill tickets per game. Capitalize on those newcomers.
However, when season ticket holders know they can sell their tickets and make some money back for games they can't attend, they are more likely to buy season tickets.
And finally, sell more group tickets to large groups for those crappy non-con games, like "band day and "ag day."
You gotta have a pipeline of all these segments in case the season takes a turn for the worst.
Ex: The St. Louis Blues could've sold out their entire arena to season tickets after their Stanley Cup win. They didn't. Because they knew if they alienated their single game buyers and groups, they would lose those pipelines for when the team sucks done the line.
Or... do what they are doing. Ride the wave and do a big cash grab and price out fans.
For comparison, Arkansas and South Carolina season tickets are not extremely higher than ours as they say. Maybe on average they are, but you can still get in as a season ticket holder at a comparable if not cheaper level than our tickets.
