regret is a trick word because options matter. But in a generic sense, Nebraska really regrets going to the Big 10. Now, considering part of that regret is jr status and the fact that they couldn't go anywhere else, I'm sure they're happy to be jr in the BIG than to be in the current Big 12.
BUT, Nebraska is the school that could have fixed the Big 12 instead of being the first one to leave.
Yes, there are some questions about the longterm financial competitiveness of the Big 12 if it had been "fixed" but we won't dive that deep.
The main problem with the Big 12 was financial inequality caused, in large part, by inequal TV revenue sharing. MU, ku, and others tried to fix this multiple times over the years but the Big 12 bylaws required a supermajority vote to change anything. Meaning they need 9 teams to side together. OU, Tex, Nub, & A&M all always voted to keep the status quo because they received the most money. Nebraska was ok with getting a little less than OU and UT as long as they got more than the rest. But once Mizzou got good, we started getting more TV money than Nebraska and they were plssed.
All Nebraska had to do was to vote with the other 8 schools to change the system and the Big 12 probably would have stayed together at that point and for 2010's foreseeable future.
FOX was not a notable player in CFB at the time and I argued for years for the Big 12 to quit taking peanuts from ESPN and approach FOX for a deal for network, soon to be launched FS1, and regional FSN coverage.
Long version of laughing at Nebraska for being in the position they're in and they definitely have regret. OU should not have regret and if they do, fvck'em. Laugh at them too.
