The Phillies didn’t think Flood was a “non-descript baseball player”, even though it was a package deal involving several players switching teams, they were willing to basically trade their franchise star player, Richie Allen, for Flood. Flood had seven Gold Gloves and was the best center fielder in baseball at the time he was traded.
