Instead of helping the mentally ill now, they are treated as if they are normal because it’s not nice to slap labels on people.


I forget the numbers exactly, but this is roughly accurate: in the last 70 years the US population has about doubled, and the number of people in mental institutions has dropped by something like 90%. I think most people agree that they were at times a little over-aggressive at institutionalizing people in the past, but it is absolutely impossible that the ratios have legitimately changed in that manner. We have a lot of effed up people walking the streets
