Maybe not geeky enough. There probably is more of an art to it than the article says. Probability of converting probably changes for a team from year to year and from game to game depending upon opponent's strengths, how the teams are playing that particular day, injuries, personnel available, fatigue and so on.
They probably also don't have a large enough sample size to really be as accurate in their predictions as the article's chart seems to imply, especially at the beginning of the year... but again the competition changes so how reliable are prior stats anyway?
