My wife is Vietnamese and her family was very well off in VN before the fall. They were very affluent there and had "control" over their lives is a significant way.....And in a blink of an eye they didn't......

Her uncle still lives in VN and has built a great deal of wealth. While his daughters have moved away but he's never been able to. He could of course if he really wanted to. But, why does he stay? Because the govt has complete control of his money. If he were to re-patriate elsewhere he'd lose nearly all of it.
