If I had to choose between losing one diseased arm or dying of cancer, I may not be happy with the the loss of an arm but it is clearly the better, or at least less destructive, choice.
Sometimes it's not about choosing the thing that greatly excites you. It's about realizing in tough decisions one path is usually at least marginally better so you take it.
