That the new AD recognizes Pingeton has had more than her fair shot and has failed and does not deserve to coach here past the time her contract expires, and will use the next year to prepare and identify a short list of the most qualified successor.
Hopefully he is not wiping the slate clean for whatever transpired before he got here and assigning no accountability for the last 5 years. The worse scenario is Mizzou somehow squeaks into the NCAA tourney this year and she gets a contract extension based on that alone, when that is a poor measuring stick for success. As others have said though, there is little chance of that happening, as this years team is unlikely to be any more competitive in the SEC than last years.
I was not impressed at all with the new ADs weak mealy mouth statements about how you can’t overdefine success when evaluating a coach. That may be true for a brand new coach who needs a good 3, maybe 4 years to get their own type of players and system installed. But after 14 (?) years we know exactly what we have in Pingeton.
That she is still here for yet a second straight death watch season is due solely to the lucky, flukish timing of DRFs departure. It seems virtually unprecedented for a P5 coach to play out their contract completely with no contract extension, and not be fired before then.
