I said they have the same rights I do.
They’re treated differently now because they were treated differently in the past in that their rights were routinely violated. They need extra “protection” of their rights, but the rights are no different than my rights.
As for the hate crime laws - they’re intended to be applied to anyone who is a victim of a crime due to bias. Whether that bias is directed at what you’d describe as a protected class, or an OWG.
The specific example I mentioned above was:
Six black men assaulted and seriously injured a white man and his Asian male friend as they were walking through a residential neighborhood. Witnesses stated the victims were attacked because they were trespassing in a “black” neighborhood.
