military operations. If you want to extend it to how it's used today, yes that innocent person would be collateral damage from my attempt at self defense.
Now, to get to the crux of the argument I would agree with your last answer of "not necessarily". However, the difference for me is in the expected outcome. You are unable to articulate when you determine it murder and when you don't. "War is hell" is a copout.
