The West has been supporting nationalist/fascist insurrection in Western Ukraine (Galicia) for most of the 20th Century. The U.S. has been at it, since the 1950s. There is a strain of nationalism within extreme western Ukraine that outside powers have been cultivating with the intention of using the Ukrainian nationalism to destabilize Russia. Globalist neocons in the Oboma regime were turned loose in the Ukraine after 2010. The 2014 Maidan Color Revolution was the culmination of decades of meddling, but couldn't have occurred without the support of our CIA. Untold and unaccounted $Billions have been wasted on this effort. Its become obvious to anyone with a brain that the entire Ukraine project is an abject failure. They haven't destabilized, weakened or defeated Russia and it appears Russia won't stop until they take and incorporate most of the Ukraine back into Russia.
