hypocrite.
That John Stewart doesn't understand the Trump case is irrelevant.
Stewart ranted about it not being a victimless crime. He gave as HIS example that Trump defrauded the people of NY state b/c he didn't pay the appropriate taxes on his properties. Claiming that he undervalued them for taxation purposes.
Stewart knows full well that the owner doesn't set the value for taxation purposes. He knows the state does this. So he's on TV ranting about something he knows to be false.
Not only was it false, HE (and almost everyone subject to property taxes on real estate) did the same thing. He was being taxed at 800k. He sold it for 17 million. The next owner lost 4 million on it.
nobody is claiming Stewart did anything wrong. We are simply pointing out his idiotic hypocrisy.
also several of Trump's properties, most famously Mar-a-Largo, are set up under conservation easements. A complicated tax structure that is legal and lowers his tax liabilities on those properties. But once again, that Mar-a-Largo is "only" valued for taxation purposes at 26 million has no (or very little anyway) bearing on its open market value.
