doesn't matter what we in the U.S. or Western Europe think. What matters is how the Russians see it. They are convinced Western meddling in the Ukraine and Nato expansion presented an existential threat. Russia has the motivation and capability to act in support of their vital national interests. What it comes down to is the failure of Western governments to understand this basic underlying truth and acknowledge it through diplomatic discourse.
