We have a team full of seniors. I understand most are mid major quality at best, but we gotta win at least one conference game. This team reminds me of the Kim Anderson days where the roster was full of mid major caliber players. The days of “rebuilding” in college basketball are over given the transfer portal is always open. If we can’t get the job done, it’s time to seriously sit down and evaluate if Gates is the right man for the job. You will never win in the SEC when your starting point guard is 5’9 230 lbs and your starting PF is 6’5”. Recruiting talented players is absolutely essential to winning in this league. I understand we have a five star recruit coming in (Boateng), but keep in mind the rest of the class is ranked as lower tier 4 star players who may not be impactful whatsoever. Hitting the transfer portal for talented, mature players should be the priority this off season if Gates wants to retain his job after next year.
