In your example, you are comparing the actions of the same people. How do their actions compare tonight to their previous actions in the same season.

In your question, you compared the actions of one person over an entire coaching tenure to the actions of a different person over a handpicked season in their tenure while ignoring the other season in that tenure because it doesn't fit your agenda. That's why you received the blowback.
