Man has always been spiritual ; Native Americans had beautiful relationships with god and the natural world w/o the trappings of formal religion. You mention the 10 commandments later in this thread as if they were a sacred gift from "the god" yet history shows the concepts far outdated christianity and were basically taken from those previous so called pagan beliefs. And then of course they aren't even followed , often by "god" or his chosen such as in "thou shalt not kill" and yet the christian god spends alot of time in the old testament killing his adversaries or having his chosen like King David do it. Not like we haven't heard leaders thru out time justify their actions as being above the law because of the "rightness" of their judgement[ trump] I don't see the assigned "God" as any different when the stated actions are inconsistent with the expressed beliefs. My point being, you said that anyone of faith will make a judgement of what is truth. I have no problem with that; it's when you believe your belief is superior and therefore have the right and obligation to impose yours on me, which is what the religious right believes.
