property? The indentured servitude and bound apprenticeship systems would have been more heavily practiced had African slaves not been so cheaply and readily available on the West coast of Africa. How do you suppose those people became enslaved?

One of my Great Grandfathers was a bound boy from Ireland. His parents sold him into bondage, through brokers when he was eight years old and he was freed on his 18 birthday. Soon thereafter he joined a Union Army volunteer infantry regiment in Mansfield, Ohio. He served his last nine months in the Army as a POW at a Confederate prison camp in Alabama. So, he paid twice for his freedom.
