future humans are going to the moon, Mars, and likely other man-made pods orbiting the sun with the intent of populating the solar system with humans.

The US is attempting to dominate the earth's atmosphere in order to 'ensure democracy and everyone getting fair use of the space' or some other nonsense (not a direct quote, those are sarcastic quotation marks). That is one of the main missions of the US Space Force.

Other nations obviously don't want the US controlling that space alone.

China has 'satellite killers' that are essentially drones that attack satellites to knock them out of orbit.

The US just launched the Boeing X-37 space plane a few days ago and it's mission isn't entirely clear.
