The AP Poll is totally independent of the playoff and coaches poll.
As unlikely as it seemed when the CFP was instituted, we can still have split National Titles.
Florida State had the perfect set up.
They are still ahead of Bama in the AP poll. There is a good chance, Washington and Michigan will both lose in this playoff.
If FSU Beat Georgia with the very backup QB that the CFB denied... they'd be 14-0 and the only undefeated P5 team in the nation.
They'd have huge swaths of support around the nation and AP voters for the way they responded in the face of adversity.
Many AP Voters would likely WANT to be a part of something so historic, controversial and meaningful.
All FSU had to do, was come out immediately and say "We may not be in the playoffs, but we are going to beat Georgia and end up #1 in the AP Poll."
They had every opportunity to create and set up that narrative.
Instead, they cried like little beeches. Their players, university and coaches flat out quit and said, "no thanks, we forfeit."
63-3 proved to us one thing: Florida State knew the committee was likely right. They had no chance to win the playoff. They knew even with a full team, they aren't getting past Georgia. Or any of the 4 in the playoff.
They didn't go for the AP Title, because it would have revealed they were a fraud when they got beat last night.
And/or maybe they were too stupid to know that option still existed.
