remember correctly, they had a great African American quarterback who was injured versus Okie State (Oklahoma A&M, at the time) when the Cowboys were an all-white team. According to the account I read, the OSU players were taking cheap shots left and right in an effort to put him out of the game. They succeeded. Here's a Wikipedia report on the incident:
