I believe just about every player who started or played significant minutes were brought in by Dennis Gates. Someone commented that Gates won last year with Cuonzo's players. That person is ill-informed.
The one exception was Kobe Brown - and nobody - and I mean NOBODY - had him pegged as a first round draft pick prior to last season. Hats off to Gates and his coaches for developing Kobe into a first round draft pick.
But the following players were the ones that saw significant action last year - and NONE of them was a Cuonzo holdover. Anyone who says that Gates won last year with Cuonzo players is either ill-informed or just doesn't follow basketball.
Tre Gomillion
DeAndre Gholston
D'Moi Hodge (now in the NBA)
Nick Honor
Aiden Shaw
Noah Carter
Sean East
Mizzou laid an egg last night - big deal. It's a 32 game season. Let's see what they learn from the game and what the addition of Connor Vanover in the middle does for them (plus the development of the freshmen).
But people who are completely going off the deep end after one game remind me of that Doctor Pepper commercial.
I hope Drink turns it around but less we forget:
Dennis Gates - Year 1 - 25 wins and the school's first NCAA tournament win in 13 years. :-)
Eli Drinkwitz - after Year 3 - 17-19 record. :-(
I would say some folks need to calm down and try to put their thinking caps on - but in at least one case, I know that's asking way too much.
