Sherman's march from Atlanta to Savannah was relatively limited in comparison to the devastation the Union committed in Missouri for the entire duration of the war. Somewhere between 200,000 and 300,000 Missourians left the State during and shortly after the war. That's out of a pre-war population of roughly 1.2 million.
