Germany (other than German attacks on US shipping within US coastal waters), Germany ultimately posed a much greater threat to the US than Japan. In 1941, they had little means to attack the US but they were arguably still winning the war in December 1941 and the outcome was still in doubt. By wars end, German technology had produced fairly advanced weapons of war that could eventually be used to attack the US.
I'm not a member of the anti-war faction on TB. There are times where you must fight. I would have had no issues with going to war with Japan either. I would have a problem, however, with the demand for unconditional surrender and indiscriminate bombing of Japanese (and German) cities and using the atomic bomb against 2 Japanese cities.
