Whether I blame them for the intentional slaughter of innocents with credible evidence that the innocents were acting as human shields, I would not hold them to account for that particular act.
C'est la guerre.
I try to apply the same rules. Hamas has a long storied history of violence, savagery, using children and women as human shield and indiscriminate slaughter of Jews.
No such history exists for Israel. So I'm very skeptical with a scenario that paints Hamas as, innocent or drawing moral equivalence between Israeli and Hamas actions.
The object of war is to winn. Winning is often defined as killing more of their guys than your guys.
And a casualty of war is innocent lives are lost.
Here's a gruesome, hypothetical: suppose you could win the war, save your country save your family and friends, and vanquish your mortal enemy permanently. It requires only one single simple act; blowing up a kindergarten class with 20 five year-olds in it who have no idea about the war that's raging.
You would save millions of lives by sacrificing 20. It would save trillions of dollars. Can you do it?
it's a hypothetical, so it's mythical.. The question is not whether it's possible or practical the question is whether you could morally win the war that way.
There is a part of me that says there should be no such thing as a war crime or a hate crime. Because all war his criminal and all crimes are hateful.
But there is an awful lot of gray out there.
