lying to him. He is just really stupid and insecure, and he wants people to like him. The things he says are mostly rooted in lack of understanding or intelligence and not a true and purposeful attempt at lying. He doesn't possess the capacity to know or learn things.
Similarly he isn't inherently racist, its just the only people who still like and respect him are racist and he recognizes if he says things of that nature it gets a positive reaction from them. But it isn't any deeper than that.
