was George Michaels best friend since gradeschool, and was the outgoing one that got the band started.

The early success was all Ridgely and his hustle, but then George Michael figured out how to actually write good songs and he took off. Andrew stepped aside to let his friend do his thing. It was 100% amicable, which is rare in the music industry.
