The intent of the mob that assaulted the Capitol on Jan. 6 was to violently prevent Congress and the VP from executing their Constitutional duty to cast and count electoral votes so as to memorialize the election of Biden as President and to make that election official as required by the Constitution. They intended to prevent that in hopes of somehow illegally perpetuating the presidency of Trump.

That is an insurrection.
