Putin acts crazy but he has to know relative power of the EU, US and rest of their allies. If Ukraine had nukes when putin attacked - he never would have.
Also, I don't see the SU as being a big threat, partly for the same reason but also because economically they couldn't have touched us and the west.

But today I fear xi more than poot, especially as long as we got presidents like joe. Xi couldn't possibly fear him.
