There's two very negative downsides to NIL

The first is that, coupled with the transfer portal, it gives players an additional reason to transfer. It's not just playing time or being generally discontent with the program now, a player can simply come out financially ahead by transferring. So that exacerbates the problems caused by the portal.

The second is more insidious. It will take time to see the impact of what happens when fans, already having to pay for not-that-inexpensive tickets and parking and driving to Columbia, spending the night, contributions to the AD, now have to pay to secure quality players for the team to be successful. We don't have to pay other than the cost of tickets (and the inflated costs of advertised products) to see the Chiefs prosper. There is no collection tin at Arrowhead to add to Mahomes contract. I think it's a little much to have to rely on fans that are already paying for everything you pay for to see an NFL game (and more if they contribute to the AD) to now help pay for getting quality players.

Yea, we don't know the impact of the second point yet and I think some rabid fan bases will always pay but others will fatigue quickly.
