i did not see the pacific coast schools doing what usc/ucla did because i thought geography would prevent it. they had been members since the 20s in the conference that formed in 1915.

the two arizona schools were not original members. they joined in '78, not that long ago on a relative basis. and there had been rifts between them, particularly uofa, and the conference for some time over $$$.
