The only area that could be created is Broadway/Providence over to 5th Street, either north or south of Broadway but...
North of Broadway (Providence to 5th, Broadway to Walnut) would require invoking eminent domain and demolition of Second Baptist Church and the Blind Boone House. Ain't no way that's happening. That would be the demolition of Sharp's End, part two (credit to trrrip for that observation).
South of Broadway (still Prov. to 5th, Broadway to Cherry) would require demolition/relocation of Shiloh, Broadway Diner and some vacant buildings (Ice House, an abandoned bank)
East of downtown are two vacant lots - Ripley Park (Stephens Collge land at Broadway/William - north side of Broadway) and the old Stephens Natatorium site on the south side of Broadway.
On campus - demolish the ugly General Services Building, relocate University Garage and turn the corner of Champions Drive & Stadium (next to softball) into the baseball complex.
Or take out Stankowski, the surrounding parking, and the Mathematics building and you'd have room for a stadium in the heart of campus
But Astro's right, until the AD mindset changes it'll be maybe finishing the turf at Taylor and calling that good.
