I pretty much left the republicans when Trump took over. Anyway, roads don't repair themselves and as a greater number of vehicles on the roads become EV's (which will happen), there will be significantly less revenue for road maintenance. It has to come from somewhere. Otherwise, both EV and internal combustion owners will be adversely impacted.

A lot of states that are not exactly red states already do this: California, Oregon, Washington, Minnesota and Colorado
