Reveal God to his people. Since his people according to the Story it was written from a Hebrew perspective. It is not a history book but there is history in it. It isn't a science book but there is science in. I would say that it is a combination of God's message to the individual and to mankind as a group the human race. The Christian part of it is the same and also written by Jews except one book. I love it and have been studying for years. One of the problems that I have with American interpretation of it is that they are not Jews.
