If he could do kickoffs, the thought process is he would be doing them. He will have to do both in the NFL. If "using different parts of the foot" is a problem for him in college the same would be true in the NFL.

Many great college kickers that did both in college never had a shot or never made it in the NFL. Being an NFL kicker is one of the most exclusive clubs in all of sports. There are only 32 positions available and essentially no backups. Only the elite of the elite make it. If you don't do kickoffs in college, you are probably not going to be in the club. That's the reality of it.

It's a reasonable suspicion, but yeah, we don't know for sure. In any case, the idea he would declare for the draft this year is comical. He needs to use up all his eligibility at this point and hope he has a couple of perfect seasons to make up for the mess this year, and do kickoffs if wants to be taken seriously in the NFL conversation.
