to play the likes of Alabama, USC, Nebraska, Notre Dame and Ohio State, but Al didn't have the motivational skills to keep them focused against lesser teams. After all, he was a pretty droll character and probably couldn't do what it took to get players excited to play the kU's and Illinois's of the world.
