However, yes, this is political and she "should be freed" - but can this be a surprise to anyone? Who would go to Russia as a US citizen given the adversarial nature and extreme agitation of the political relationship between the US and Russia?

I struggle to have tremendous empathy for the profoundly ignorant, or entitled, or foolish - but I do 100% find this an abhorrent outcome.
