That event is what gave rise to acceptable racism again and spawned the creation of Fox News. Our government is basically broken now, there is no agreeable reliable source of information, the internet and social media is a cesspool, and our country is divided against each other. We are living through what will be looked back upon as the unwinding of America, and with the perspective of aftermath 9/11 will be the tipping point event, and things just spiraled out of control from there.

More to your point there is a misconception between everyone having a right to an opinion and everyone having a right for their opinion to matter. The group who has come to occupy the term 'conservative' believes they are being silenced simply because their perspective is completely disregarded and not relevant to the discussion because it is so uninformed and dumb. There is no obligation to give consideration or weight to something made up or stupid, and somehow that has become a dividing mark in our society.
