written using a very political give and take process. To get the original states to ratify the constitution required a number of deals and concessions and the wording used was very important.
Just because a particular participant made notes of the process does not mean that his beliefs are what was finally agreed to. The Federalist Papers and similar documents were written from the perspective of a single side. If you read Clarence Thomas' personal notes about how they came to the recent SC decisions I suspect they read very differently than Soto Mayor's. What matters is the ultimate decision they made not the individual position papers they may write.
