public space for this kind of thing is going to be exotically transparent, otherwise it won't gain traction.
I realize that's a totally different problem to solve than the actual problem at hand, but it's also reality.
As I said, a nationally known, trusted organization needs to put a stamp of approval on this at regular intervals.
If that cramps the style of the original insider's club they may want to think about formally establishing a separate organization for pooling funds from the general public.
