"picked" on reputation. Schools like Mizzou and even Ole Miss will get picked if they do well in a conference that has its share of OOC wins against the other Power Five. And yes Alabama winning against someone like Oregon OOC helps a Mizzou in a given year Mizzou does well in the conference. It's not that difficult to get.
